about me

Kia ora! My name is Beth Stewart. I am a singer, pianist, beginner bass player, creator of the Vibrator Instrument, and yet with all these creative strengths I am unfortunately terrible at playing guitar. It is truly my achilles heel. For those curious about my educational credentials, I have a diploma in Communications, a Diploma in Dance and I will soon be completing a Bachelor in Commercial Music at the end of 2022.

I am the lead singer for the band Sure Boy where I play alongside my good friends Freyja Appleyard, Lily Fulton and Simone McCarthy. I am also a session musician for the artist Freyja, where I play synth and provide backup vocals. Sure Boy has granted me many amazing opportunities such as opening for The Beths, touring Aotearoa with many amazing bands, and we will also be playing at the 2023 Rhythm and Vines Festival.

My latest creative conquest is the vibrator instrument I have aptly named the ‘Vibratorphone’ which is being showcased in my exhibition Good Vibes at Exposure 2022. The reason behind this venture was I wanted to create a safe and lighthearted space for people to learn about sexual health and expression as it is something I am passionate about.

Sure Boy, also known as ‘Wellington’s baddest girl band’, are a fresh and gritty pop-rock concoction. Beautifully harmonised rants cover everything from toxic relationships to questionable coping mechanisms to eating whole lemons. Beth, Simone, Freyja and Lily are here to make you shake your bum and call your mum, seriously…she would love Sure Boy.

good vibes

Good Vibes is an interactive musical art installation that aims to encourage a positive mentality around women’s sexual expression and pleasure. The interactive portion of the exhibition involves making music using vibrators to add to the ambient music playing in the room. For people who may not feel inclined to participate in this way, there are also information boards around the room to provide further knowledge on sexual health and pleasure.
